Sri Lanka knocked out of the AFC Cup

Nepal and Sri Lanka had been knocked out of the competition before they clashed with each other. Nepal seemed to be more up for it on Monday as they showed tremendous stamina and hunger to salvage some pride before they caught their flight back to their home nation. Nepal took the lead as early as the 14 minute of the match through Santosh Shahukhala after dominating right from the kickoff. Nepal increased their lead nine minutes later when striker Ju Manu Rai, who was arguably the best player on the pitch on Monday, scored from a Bhola Nath Silwal cross. Nepal wrapped up their victory with just over 20 minutes of the match remaining as defender Anjan KC scored a brilliant goal from a free kick. For Nepal this was their first victory at the AFC Challenge Cup’08 and they finish third in Group B behind DPR Korea and Myanmar. Sri Lanka went home without collecting a single point from their three group matches.
