It was known as the Ceylon national football team until 1972, when Ceylon was renamed Sri Lanka. Football in Sri Lanka stands somewhat in the shadow of the country’s Great cricket team. Sri Lankan the side did qualify for the second stage of Asian qualifying for the 2006 World Cup. In 1995 they won the SAFF Cup. 2006 They were the Runner Up team in AFC Challenge Cup. In 1990’s Rhoshan Perera is my best Sri Lankan Footballer. Amunulla is also great player. Now Chcthura Maduranga and Kasun Jayasuriya are good players.
